PrintYauyos Quechua Ethnic Population
Given the newly established distinction between Yauyos Quechua and Chincha Quechua, we have these Ethnic Population figures for peasant communities in the respective districts of northern Yauyos province, Lima Department, according to the 2017 census in Peru: Laraos has one community of 456 persons; Huancaya has two communities of 345 persons and Vitis has one community of 273 persons, which totals 618 for the two disticts viewed as one language variety together; and Tomás has two communities of 489 persons and Alis has two communities of 248 persons -- a total of 737 persons for the Alis-Tomás variety. The latter is the only one that still has Quechua speakers (182) in the community of San Lorenzo de Alis, which has a population of 232. Thus, we have a total Ethnic Population for Yauyos Quechua at 1,811.
