acqI am involved in a language project in this language and can confirm that an orthography in about to be developed in a serious way. It is awkward setting up a language project for a language that has "spoken" in it's name. I'd suggest dropping that word.

Hi Kent,
We talked a little bit about this on Saturday morning. For consistency's sake, we will not make this change in the Ethnologue at this time.
In most Arabic-speaking countries, Standard Arabic [arb] is used in most written materials, in the media and in religious writings, such as the Koran.
Besides Ta'izzi-Adeni Spoken Arabic [acq], there are other spoken Arabics that have their own orthographies that are being developed. We will keep our eyes on this development of orthographies for the spoken Arabic as time goes on to see if it largely replaces Standard Arabic in the long run.
Thanks.
