Typology: 13 consonants (not 15) which in IPA notation are b, d, k, m, n, p, s, t, w, ʃ, j, ts, tʃ ɑnd 6 vowels is correct. My wife and I worked with the Matis people (with Ethnos360) for 10 years and I did a Phonological Analysis and Orthography.
Language Use: continues vigorous, but it would be more correct to say that many use Portuguese as well, especially men from 15-40 years of age, and some of the younger women.
Language Deveolpment: Phonology, Orthography, Grammar Analysis is incomplete, set of Literacy Primers, Bilingual Dictionary (Matis-Portuguese).
Writing: written.
Population is somewhere near 450, but I don't have the exact number. Was waiting for a matis leader to give me the correct number, but haven't heard back from him. They have been over 400 since at least 2015.

Dear Edward,
Thanks for all this good information on Matis [mpq] in Brazil.
Right now, our mutual friend, Dave Eberhard, is actually in Brazil for about a month; maybe you'll run into him sometime. Stan Anonby contributed a lot to the Ethnologue when he was in Brazil a number of years ago.
Blessings,
