Kembayan is not a language name and people are not considered it as it is. The community is usually called Bu' Mateq or Mateq. This information is also validated by Hudson (1970) and Connel (2013).

In our previous survey, people stated that Kerambai refers to another language other than Bu' Mateq. They strongly opposed the term Kerambai as an alternate name for Bu Mateq.

Editorial Action

We will change the name of the language for [xem] from Kembayan to Mateq (Bu Mateq), for inclusion in the next edition of the Ethnologue.
