I woudl like to suggest that 'LangDang Yolmo' presented here as a dialect of Hyolmo also called Helambu Sherpa be presented as a separate dialect/language. According to Tournade Langtang is part of Kyirong-Kagate family, and our recent research (BOLD and Langtang Dictionary prove that Langtang shares some features with Kyirong that are not present in Hyolmo (most notable are the phonetic features, including front rounded vowels in words like tü ‘see’.)

Summary of Langtang BOLD can be found on https://www.academia.edu/85177630/BOLD_documentation_of_the_Langtang_lan...

I am new to Ethnologue, please excuse me if I am not providing all needed information. I am happy to share more.

Dear Radka,

Thank you for this information on the Langtang (LangDang) dialect of Hyolmo [scp] in Nepal.

The basis of the analysis of Langtang as a dialect of Hyolmo has mostly to do with mutual intelligibility. Since there is a high degree of intelligibility, Lang Tang has been listed as a dialect name for Hyolmo.

Ethnologue follows the ISO 639-3 Standard for language identification. The criteria for identifying individual languages are the same as those of ISO (https://www.ethnologue.com/about/problem-language-identification).

Best wishes,
