For France: "537,000 in France (2015 J. Leclerc)" but I cannot find Leclerc 2015 in the bibliography: https://www.ethnologue.com/bibliography

For Algeria: what's the 2020 number based on?

Editorial Action

We will correct citation for J. Leclerc from unpublished to published for Kabyle [kab] in France as well as for the other instances of this, for inclusion in the next edition of the Ethnologue.

Dear Antoine,

To answer your questions:

I will correct the bibliographic citation for Kabyle [kab] in France. When the date comes first for a citation in the Ethnologue, followed by the name with first initial, it means that it is not a published work, but personal communication or a website). For Leclerc, at his request, we are citing him now as a publication (name first, date second). So, this needs to be corrected.

The 2020 number for [kab] in Algeria is based on the percentage given in Leclerc as well as other evidence that the number should be in the 5 to 6 million range.

Best wishes,

Chuck Fennig

Thanks.

Regarding the population in Algeria: yes, there's evidence that the population in Algeria is about 5 million. But 6.2 million seems a bit high.
