Comments
Given that the 2019 population is:
* Guadeloupe (excl. Saint-Martin & Saint-Barthélemy): 384k
* Saint-Martin: 32k
* Saint-Barthélemy: 10k
So we currently have more gcf speakers in Guadeloupe than inhabitants...
Dear Antoine,
Thank you for this information on Guadeloupean French Creole [gcf].
According to the 20th edition of the Ethnologue, the population of Guadeloupe was 469,000 in 2015 (https://www.ethnologue.com/20/country/GP/). In the 23rd edition, it was down to 450,000 in 2017 (http://www.ethnologue.com/23/country/GP/). So, the country population has been decreasing. In the current edition it is 400,000, and it will remain the same in the coming edition (26th).
We will probably leave the [gcf] population in Guadeloupe at 375,000, down from 430,000 in both the 20th and 23rd editions.
Best wishes,
Chuck Fennig
