Hi,

I was speaking with speakers of [vig] today who are involved in orthography and language development in the language.  One of our topics today was the name of the language itself.  Their autonym of the language, written in the orthography, is viemɔ̃.  When I showed them the Ethnologue name, they said that theyʼd prefer to see it saying the following:

Main name: Viemɔ̃

Alternate names: Viemon (the name in French orthography), Vigué (the name of the people group in French), Vige (the name of the people group in the orthography of Jula, the trade language).

We will add the autonym and other alternate names for Viemo [vig] in Burkina Faso, for inclusion in the next edition of the Ethnologue.

Hi Susie,

Thank you for giving us this information for Viemo [vig] in Burkina Faso.

We will add Viemɔ̃ as the autonym for Viemo. In the new version of the Ethnologue, coming out next month, with the new (26th) edition, the autonyms will be highlighted. We will keep Viemo as the primary name, since that is the name in commonly used in the literature. Also, Ethnologue does not use special characters (like ɔ̃) in the primary name. We will also add the other names to the Viemo entry.
