ArmeniaProposition to add Assyrian-speaking communities on the Armenia map.
According to the 2011 census, 2,769 Assyrians live in Armenia, of which 2,256 have identified Assyrian as their mother tongue, and only 81 have chosen Russian.
Assyrians mostly reside in the Ararat, Kotayk, and Armavir provinces. In the following two villages, they make up the majority population:
- Verin Dvin, Ararat Province. Over 80% of the 1,831 population is Assyrian. The local Assyrian school provides Assyrian language and history classes. Source: http://ararat.mtad.am/national-minorities/
- Arzni, Kotayk Province. Over 50% of the 2,422 population is Assyrian. Assyrian is taught at school. Source: http://kotayk.mtad.am/pokramasnutyunner/
In the following villages, a significant number of Assyrians reside but do not make up the majority:
- Nor Artagers, Armavir Province. Over 21% of the 1,224 population is Assyrian. Assyrian is not taught at school here; children go to the Russian school instead. Source: http://armavir.mtad.am/nationalminority/
- Dimitrov, Ararat Province. Over 20% of the 1,391 population is Assyrian. Assyrian is taught at school. Source: http://ararat.mtad.am/national-minorities/
Population numbers for each village are taken from here.
