Armenian language spoken in Azerbaijan/Nagorno-Karabakh
The current map for the country of Azerbaijan does not reflect the post-Karabakh-war reality with regard to the spread of the Armenian language in the disputed region.
The new borders show that Armenian speakers are no longer present in cities such as Shusha/i and others outside the Soviet NKO border. This map in particular correctly shows the current location of Armenian (numbered 1) inside Azerbaijan (in dark green). Another map depicting the Azerbaijani language shows the post-war borders, however it does include the so-called Lachin corridor as also part of the Armenian language sphere, whereas recently towns along the Lachin corridor were surrendered to Azerbaijan, Armenian-speaking population fleeing from there.
North Azerbaijani (10) and Northern Kurdish (11) are in some cases shown inside the Nagorno-Karabakh region which should not be the case, and vice-versa for Armenian speakers who in the northern part are shown outside of the Karabakh borders. It is also worth noting that Kurdish speakers west of Nagorno-Karabakh were present prior to the 1990s war, and were replaced as a consequence of the war. It is not well known if today they have been relocated to this region (resettlement programs are still in process even for Azeris), hence making the inclusion of Northern Kurdish (11) in these regions questionable.
The Ethnologue cartographers will be looking at this and making necessary changes for the next edition of the Ethnologue.
