Legislative Status of the Russian Language in Kazakhstan
Dear Ethnologue,
In this note I want to clarify legislative status of the Russian language in Kazakhstan. According to Constitution of Kazakhstan, 1995, article 7(1) :
Original. "Қазақстан Республикасындағы мемлекеттiк тiл - қазақ тiлi"
Translation. "The Kazakh language is state language of the Republic of Kazakhstan"
Constitution of Kazakhstan, 1995, article 7(2):
Original. "Мемлекеттiк ұйымдарда және жергiлiктi өзiн-өзi басқару органдарында орыс тiлi ресми түрде қазақ тiлiмен тең қолданылады"
Translation. "The Russian language uses officially equal with Kazakh in state bodies and in local administration bodies"
Part 2 of article 7 in Constitution claims that the Russian language uses equally to Kazakh only in offices of state bodies and local administration. So, I think it will be better to replace the status "National" from Russian language in Kazakhstan to "Provincial".

We will update the Function in Country for Russian [rus] in Kazakhstan from Statutory National Language to Statutory National Working Language, to be included in the next edition of the Ethnologue.
Census 2021 results related to ethnic groups in Kazakhstan
In accordance to published results of Census 2021 Kazakhstan population was equal 19 186 015. Ethnic groups diversified like there:
Kazakhs 13 497 891 (70,4%)
Russians 2 981 946 (15,5%)
Uzbeks 614 047 (3,2%)
Ukrains 387 327 (2%)
Uyghurs 290 337 (1,5%)
Germans 226 092 (1,2%)
Tatars 218 653 (1,1%)
Azeri people 145 615 (0,8%)
Koreans 118 450 (0,6%)
Turks 85 478 (0,5%)
Dungans 78 817 (0,%)
Belorusians 76 484 (0,4%)
Tajiks 49 827 (0,3%)
Kurds 47 880 (0,3%)
Polacs 35 319 (0,2%)
Kyrgyzs 34 184 (0,2%)
Chechens 33 557 (0,2%)
Other ethnic groups or people who didn't wrote their ethnicity 264 111 (1,4%)
