No known L1 speakers. All speakers relocated to mainland in early 19th century and probably extinct by early 20th century.

California: Channel Islands off the coast from Santa Barbara.

Not intelligible with other Chumash varieties. Had multiple dialects.

Shifted to English [eng].
Language Development
Although only Ineseno [inz] descendants are organized as a recognized tribe, there is interest among all Chumash descendants in restoring their traditional culture and language. Chumash Living Language Revitalization Project was established in 1999 (Golla 2007).
