We have "1,280,000 (2019), decreasing. 3,000,000–4,000,000 speakers of Southern Zazaki and Northern Zazaki [kiu] in Turkey and other countries (Paul 2009). A few elderly monolinguals."

However Ethnologue only lists:

  • 1,280,000 [diq] speakers in Turkey
  • 203,000 [kiu] speakers in Turkey
  • = 1,483,000 [diq+kiu] speakers in Turkey

Where are the other 1.5 to 2.5 million [diq+kiu] speakers?

Editorial Action

We will remove the public comment in the population section cited from Paul 2009 for Northern Zazaki [kiu] and Southern Zazaki [diq] in Turkey, to be removed from the next edition of the Ethnologue.
