Cordillera Administrative Region: Abra province, a few villages in Danglas, Lagangilang, Langiden, and Penarubia municipalities; Ilocos region: Ilocos Norte province, Nueva Era municipality; Ilocos Sur province, Cabugao, San Juan, Magsingal, Santo Domingo, and Nagbukel municipalities.

Vigorous in some communities. The language is still spoken by all generations but not all children and adults speak it in communities in the Ilocos region that are heavily populated by Ilocanos (2020 SIL). Home, community. Some young people, all adults. In Ilocos region, there are now more children who are speaking Ilocano [ilo] as L1. The low proficiency of the children in the language was revealed by the result of L1 materials field-testing (2020 SIL). Also use English [eng]. Also use Filipino [fil]. Also use Ilocano [ilo].
Materials for mother-tongue multilingual education have been developed for the Inlaud Itneg communities in the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte since 2018 (2020 SIL).
