Update for Kobol language

Stephen Stanley, Tue, 2022-02-15 03:23
Regarding:
Dialects
ISO 639-3:
kgu

I've included multiple contributions here which I've arranged under the field heading with explanatory comments up here. We actually call it the Kovol language. The b is a b fricative, which will become a /v/ in the orthography we're developing. Is it appropriate to change the language name to Kovol to reflect this?

Our team has been in Kovol for 2 years and we're progressing with language study.

As for resources, we have dictionary.reachkovol.com (definately a work in progress). Phonemic and grammar write ups should be completed later this year.
Please feel free to suggest ways we can contribute better.

Editorial Action

We will change the primary name of the language from Kobol to Kovol [kgu] in Papua New Guinea, and we will add the dialect names and linguistic typology for Kovol. These changes will be included in the next edition of the Ethnologue, due to be released in 2023.
