Language Use
Used informally for family groupings, for social occasions, and occasionally for customary events when outsiders are not present (2020 C. Volker). Some young people, all adults. Also use Tok Pisin [tpi], with the younger generation shifting.


Generally the local identifier ‘Kara-Nalik’ is used for political or other groupings that include Kara [leu], Lakurumau, and Nalik [nal] speakers. People speaking these 3 languages share one culture, an almost identical clan system, and have many family relationships (2020 C. Volker).
