Speakers
I think that Ethnologue needs to increase the number of 20,000 that it gives for this language dating back to 1998. The 2017 census in Peru registered 26,726 Quechua speakers in Lambayeque, plus 2,128 speakers in Jaén, Cutervo, and Chota provinces of Cajamarca department, where the same language is spoken, plus 3,366 Quechua speakers in Piura, where the language is spoken as well, although far fromm all of the latter may be Lambayeque Quechua speakers. Summing the figures and subtracting a portion from the latter one, we come up with an approximate rounded figure of roughly 30,000 speakers for this language for 2017.
We will update the L1 speaker population for Lambayeque Quechua [quf] in Peru, to be included in the next edition of the Ethnologue.
