Self-name
Speakers of South Bolivian Quechua refer to their language by using the word 'qhichwa' or 'qhishwa,' depending on spelling preferences. They do not use the term 'runasimi.'
Publications from the 1960s to the 2020s describe this fact. For example: (1) Garland D. Bills, Bernardo Vallejo C., and Rudolph C. Troike. An Introduction to Spoken Bolivian Quechua. The Univ. of Texas Press, Austin and London, 1969 (for example, p. 446). (2) Teofilo Laime Ajacopa. Puraq Simipirwa. Diccionario bilingüe Quechua - Castellano, Castellano - Quechua. Quinta edición. La Paz, 2020 (for example, p. 481).
We will update the autonyms for South Bolivian Quechua [quh] in Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile - which will be included in the next edition of the Ethnologue.
