Revision of Village names

Jason Hill, Thu, 2022-11-10 22:41
Regarding:
Location
ISO 639-3:
tsx

Currently, Ethnologue lists the following villages for the location of the Mubami language:

"Location: Western province: middle and lower Wawoi river; Diwami, Kubeai, Parieme, Paueme, Sogae, Ugu, and Waliho villages on Guavi and Aramia rivers."

As of September 2022, Parieme has all but disappeared, its inhabitants relocating to Kamusi and a newly formed village called "Duoma." According to local sources, no one lives in Parieme any more. "Paueme" is likely a variant spelling of Parieme, so both should be struck from the entry.

Other villages are missing from this list as well, including the following: Daiyapi, Kamusi, Newtown, Tiomi, and Sipoi. Some Mubami speakers also reside at Saserme Logging camp on the Wawoi River as well.

The revised location would then read as follows:

"Location: Western province: middle and lower Wawoi river, including Diwami, Sogae, Tiomi, Sipoi, and Daiyapi villages; middle and lower Guavi river, including Kamusi, Kubeai, Waliho, and Newtown villages; and Ugu on the Aramia river. Some Mubami speakers also reside at Sasereme logging camp on the Wawoi River as well."

Revision of alternate names for Mubami

Jason Hill, Thu, 2022-11-10 22:24
Regarding:
Alternate Names
ISO 639-3:
tsx

Currently, the ethnologue has the following information:

"Alternate Names: Dausame, Dausuami Mubami, Ta, Tao-Suamato, Tao-Suame." However, after dialoging with a number of Mubami people in several different villages, I can confirm that the Mubami people do not use Tao-Suamato or Tao-Suame. They do not know what these designations refer to but they suspect they are possibly names used by speakers of other languages to refer to them. However, even this usage of Tao-Suamato or Tao-Suame cannot be confirmed. Thus, Tao-Suamato and Tao-Suame should be eliminated from the alternate names list for Mubami. Additionally, I was informed that another name for the Dausami dialect is "Tama'ai." Most commonly, speakers of this dialect are referred to as Dausami, but Tama'ai seems to be another name for it. This dialect originates in Ugu village, the southernmost Mubami village which lies on the Aramia River. According to Mubami speakers in several villages, this dialect of Mubami uses some Gogodala vocabulary and variations on Mubami words.
The revised entry would then be as follows: "Alternate Names: Dausame, Dausuami Mubami, Ta, Tama'ai."
