California; Nevada; southeast of Lake Tahoe.

8b (Nearly extinct). Language of registered tribe: Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, Susanville Indian Rancheria, Washoe Tribe (Nevada and California).

Elderly only. Shifted to English [eng].

Grammar. Texts. Washoe Tribe sponsors language retention project and successful immersion school where Washo is medium of instruction K-8 (Golla 2007).
