Dear Parvez,

Thank you for this information on the Awankari and Sohain dialects, currently featured as dialect names for Western Punjabi [pnb] in Pakistan.

Most of this information in the Ethnologue comes from Dyrud and Radloff 2011*. See also this contribution: https://www.ethnologue.com/contribution/703336. How do you respond to this information from Dr. Ameer Sultan? Could there possibly be 2 Awankari dialect names, one for Western Punjabi [pnb], the other for Southern Hindko [hnd]?

Your information comes from Glottolog, which is a reliable source for classifications. It seems that you may be correct about Awankari (Talagang), since Glottolog has "Avankari Hindko" as a dialect name under Southern Hindko. However, Glottolog does not list Sohain (Sawain) for Southern Hindko. In Dyrud and Radloff 2011, it is said that this dialect is "spoken in Fateh Jang, and more specifically Fateh Jang tehsil, Attock district, in the valley of the Sohan River" which would probably put it in the Southern Hindko area.

Best regards,
