Hi,

How did you determine the respective population counts for arz (67,000,000) and aec (24,100,000)? (total population: 100,388,000)

I don't know anything about Egypt but according to the World Bank: "the area known as Upper Egypt, has only 40 percent of the country’s population" https://www.worldbank.org/en/news/feature/2012/09/06/young-people-in-upp...

So if all Upper Egyptians speak Upper Egyptian Arabic (aec) then we could expect about 40 million aec speakers.

Also, aren't all L1 aec speakers also L2 arz speakers?

Editorial Action

We will add 25 million L2 speakers of Egyptian Spoken Arabic [arz], based on most Sa'idi Spoken Arabic [aec] speakers and other Arabic speakers in Egypt, to be included in the next edition of the Ethnologue.
