140,000 in Cameroon (2005 SIL). Based on the actual population of the sub-divisions where the Musgu people are present, as of the 2005 census (2014 C. Hamm). Total users in all countries: 164,400.

Far North region: Mayo-Danay division, Maga subdivision.

Dialects

Mpus (Mousgoum de Pouss, Pouss, Pus), Beege (Jafga), Vulum (Mulwi, Vlum), Ngilemong, Luggoy, Maniling (Mani-Iling), Muzuk (Mousgoum de Guirvidig). Vulum dialect is mainly in Chad.

Language Use

Most also use Adamawa Fulfulde [fub]. Some also use Chadian Spoken Arabic [shu]. Some also use French [fra], as language of public education. Some also use Giziga [giz]. Some also use Tupuri [tui]. A few also use Afade [aal]. A few also use Kanuri [kau]. Used as L2 by Masana [mcn], Tupuri [tui].
