Dialects

None known. Kuku speakers can understand Bari [bfa] and Kakwa [keo] fairly well due to lexical similarities. Lexical similarity: 81% with Bari [bfa].

Language Use

Some youth acquire Kuku later as young adults (2018 D. Eberhard). Home, church, music. Some young people, all adults. Positive attitudes. Many also use English [eng]. Many also use Swahili [swa]. Some also use Ganda [lug]. Some also use Ma’di [mhi]. A few also use Acholi [ach]. A few also use Aringa [luc]. A few also use Lugbara [lgg]. A few also use Nubi [kcn]. Used as L2 by Kakwa [keo].

Language Development

Many Christian congregations use English [eng] scriptures, some use Bari [bfa] or Luganda [lug] scriptures, a few use Kiswahili [swh]. Radio. Grammar.
